Pharynx swab

8月 14, 2018

Normal people should have normal oral flora, but no pathogenic bacteria. Bacteria in the pharynx are from the outside world, normally not pathogenic, but in the body or local resistance decline and other external factors can occur infection and other diseases. Therefore, bacterial culture of throat swabs can isolate pathogenic bacteria, which is helpful to the diagnosis of diphtheria, pyogenic tonsillitis, acute pharyngitis and so on.

Specimen collection and editing of throat swabs

objective

Secretions from pharynx and tonsil were used for bacterial culture or virus isolation.

Material

Throat swab culture tube, alcohol lamp, match, tongue depressor, flashlight.

step

1. check the doctor’s advice, label it on the specimen container and carry it to the bedside of the patient.

2. check the patient and explain the purpose and method of throat swab culture.

3. Lighting the alcohol lamp, instructing the patient to open his mouth and pronounce “ah” sounds, exposing his throat, and wiping the secretions of the palate arch, pharynx and tonsils with a long cotton swab in the culture tube with a sensitive and gentle motion.

4. after taking the medicine, disinfect the test tube on the alcohol lamp flame, then insert the swab into the test tube and close it tightly.

5. timely inspection.

Clinical significance

If the pathogen is detected in the secretions of sputum and throat swabs, it is regarded as respiratory tract infection. It can be combined with other examinations (X ray fluoroscopy, B ultrasound, etc.) to diagnose respiratory tract infection. Respiratory tract infection common bacteria are: staphylococcus, pneumococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, staphylococcus, streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and so on. If Mycobacterium tuberculosis is cultured, tuberculosis is the case. If yeast-like bacteria are cultured to consider whether the use of antibiotics during infection is improper or excessive, they should immediately stop using antibiotics, and switch to antifungal drugs, such as amphotericin B, griseofulvin, clotrimazole and so on.

Principle editor

Because breathing and food pass through the mouth, there will be various bacterial parasites in the mouth. Such as catarrhal coccus, all kinds of staphylococcus, all kinds of streptococcus, diphtheria-like bacilli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. There are also anaerobic bacteria, such as peptococcus, Bacteroides and yeasts.

Influenza is transmitted through the respiratory tract. The pharynx is a place where such viruses gather more. Pharyngeal swab specimen is a medical cotton swab, dipping a small amount of secretion from the pharynx of the human body, taking the sample is pharyngeal swab specimen, in order to test the type of respiratory disease virus, often through the pharyngeal swab can easily and accurately detect the virus type.

Common pathogens are:

1. Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Beta-hemolytic streptococcus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Candida, etc.

2. Gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria meningitidis Neisseria gonorrhoeae Haemophilus Morax Catarrhal Blanche pertussis Bacillus Enterobacter Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Alkali-producing bacilli, such as cultured tuberculosis bacillus, is tuberculosis.

3. the bacteria can be isolated from the pharynx of patients with pertussis diphtheria.

4. Acute pharyngopharyngitis and nasal abscess are mostly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus hemolyticus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

5. many pharyngeal infections are caused by anaerobic bacteria.

Note editor

1. during the operation, we should pay attention to the disinfection of the bottle mouth and keep the container sterile.

2. it is best to collect specimens before treatment with antibiotics.
